Driving into Canada?
This is for families driving across the U.S./Canada border. Adults should not rely on a birth certificate alone; bring a passport book/card, Minnesota Enhanced Driver's License, or NEXUS card. U.S. citizen kids under 16 driving across the land border do not automatically need a passport; an original, certified, or photocopy birth certificate can work for land crossings. Children not traveling with both parents should have a signed consent letter. Flying into Canada is different: every U.S. citizen needs a passport book.
Border officers have discretion, so one family's crossing may be quick while another gets extra questions. Check official rules before travel day.
